The BoatHouse Project was the successful first installment of Julia Adam Dance, an ambitious new artistic venture designed to appeal to all of the senses. Julia’s vision is a unique fusion of dance, music, food, location and community that inspires all participants and forms connections between people and place through visceral experience and art.
This annual event launched July 4th-6th, 2014 at the historic Brock Schreiber Boathouse perched on the western edge of picturesque Tomales Bay in Pt. Reyes National Seashore. The event was centered on Adam’s Dew Point, a dance conceptually driven by themes of water.
Set to a diverse score ranging from Saint-Saens to Phillip Glass; Louis Armstrong to Jeff Buckley and performed by a cast of nationally acclaimed dancers. Adam’s long time collaborators and award winning designers Christine Darch and Lisa Pinkham completed the visual experience.
Each evening local chef Matt Elias, of Salt Water, provided food and drink from the region including ingredients from True Grass Farms, Cannard Farms, Lagunitas Brewing Co, Hog Island Oyster Co. and Frog Hollow Farm amongst many others. The weekend culminated Sunday night with a gala event in the boathouse where a rustic farm-to-table meal was served.
Near dusk, everyone picked up their chairs and moved to the risers while dinner was cleared and the stage was set. As the performance began, the sun setting on the bay and rolling hills provided a stunning backdrop. Post performance the evening proceeded with live music by local band El Cahon, dancing and a waterside bonfire with house-made s’mores featuring chocolate by contributing chef Jay Holecek. Dancers, patrons, musicians, chefs, servers and crew all connected as one community, while the evening played on.
